Contains sufficient background information. Thesis clearly states all the main ideas. Conclusion effectively wraps up and goes beyond restating the thesis. Introduction creates interest. Thesis clearly states all the main ideas. Conclusion effectively summarizes topics. Introduction adequately explains the background, but may lack detail. Thesis states the main ideas. Conclusion is recognizable and ties up almost all loose ends. Background details are a random collection of information, unclear, or not related to the topic. Thesis is vague or unclear. Conclusion does not summarize main points. BODY PARAGRAPHS Well-developed topic sentences directly related to the thesis. Supporting examples are concrete and detailed. Concluding sentence very effectively restates the topic sentence. Topic sentences are related to the thesis, but supporting sentences may lack details. Concluding sentence restates the topic sentence. Three or more body paragraphs are present, topic sentences not very clear. Concluding sentence does not restate the topic sentence. Less than three body paragraphs and/or poor development of ideas. No topic sentences and no concluding sentences.
